NGV Motori reports the first-ever U.S. EPA approval of the Mercedes 906 for dedicated natural gas operation, widening the choices available to operators and would-be operators of natural gas vehicles.

Southern California’s Creative Bus Sales reports a sale of 17 compressed natural gas shuttle buses for the Tampa International Airport.

The Ford E-450 chassis, Starcraft body shuttles were converted to CNG using engine upfit kits from BAF Technologies with lightweight Type IV all-composite fuel cylinders from Lincoln Composites. Per-vehicle capacity is 30 GGE-gasoline gallon equivalents.

The vehicles were sold though Creative’s new Transit Plus dealership in Tampa, with the conversions of the 6.8-liter gaseous-prep engines performed by Creative’s Green Alternative Systems unit in Elkhart, Ind.

Pennsylvania’s Fyda Energy Solutions has expanded its alternative fuel offerings to include propane autogas vehicle conversions, joining the Alliance AutoGas network as the newest certified conversion center, Alliance AutoGas reports. C.R. England Eyes LNG Fleet Expansion

Kenworth and its parent Paccar, and Paccar’s PacLease unit, reminded the world about C.R. England’s fleet of LNG-fueled Kenworth T800 trucks in the wake of President Obama’s visit to UPS in Las Vegas last week.

“As the LNG infrastructure grows, C.R. England plans to expand its current California fleet and introduce these power units in other areas of the country,” PacLease said.

C.R. England deployed five of the liquefied natural gas trucks last year (F&F, May 30). They were supplied by Inland Kenworth, are based out of Ontario, Calif., and ply routes similar to those used by UPS: Los Angeles to Salt Lake City.

The deal with PacLease preserves operator capital and eliminates maintenance and re-sale concerns, PacLease sales director Olen Hunter told F&F.

Transport for London welcomed the 200th hybrid bus to its fleet last week. The vehicle is an Enviro400H model by Alexander Dennis Ltd, with HybriDrive brand series driveline by BAE Systems with lithium ion batteries – supplied by A123 Systems.
