‘A Monumental Day,’ Says LaHood: ‘First Meaningful Update in Decades’

Proclaiming “a monumental day for the American people” and for the U.S. automobile industry, Obama administration officials and supporters celebrated new car and light truck fuel efficiency regulations yesterday. The NHTSA-EPA regulation, with a target fuel efficiency of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, is now the law of the land. The rule takes effect with the 2017 model year.

Net Income of $14 Million as Volumes Soar, Terminals Open

“It’s not a new industry anymore,” Renewable Energy Group president and CEO Dan Oh told F&F Friday, one week after REG’s second-quarter earnings report showed net income of $14.4 million for the first quarter, compared with a $948,000 loss for the first quarter of 2011. Company revenue grew 29%, to nearly $272 million, as gallons produced rose 30%, to 43 million.

Stations Offering BioCNG More Than Doubled This Year

The number of compressed natural gas fueling stations in Germany offering 100% biomethane more than doubled during the first seven months of 2012, to 76, Berlin-based Erdgas Mobil reports. Nearly 230 of the 900 natural gas filling stations in Germany offer renewable natural gas in some proportion.
