BARTA to Test Two Battery Vehicles with Inductive Charging

Ohio’s Amp Electric Vehicles and Pennsylvania’s Momentum Dynamics will test wireless EV charging on paratransit vehicles with the Reading, Pa.-based Berks Area Regional Transportation Authority, beginning in the first quarter of 2013. A new Amp-Momentum joint venture will convert two Ford E-450 chassis to electric operation.

Contracts with Gillig and New Flyer Could be Worth $347 Million,
MTS Will Be Able to Retire Its Last Diesel and Establish BRT Routes

The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System board has voted to buy as many as 350 CNG-fueled 40-foot low-floor buses by Gillig and up to 165 New Flyer 60-foot low-floor articulated CNG buses through 2017. “The total value of the contracts, if all options are exercised and future funding is available, is in excess of $343 million,” MTS said.

The dealer’s Sainte-Julie outlet and partners Peterbilt Motors, PacLease, Gaz Metro Transport Solutions and Westport HD are offering the 2013 Peterbilt 386 for lease for one month at a time.

Production in April, Full-Scale Production in August

Autocar, Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt and Volvo can expect to receive limited quantities of the 350-horsepower version of the dedicated-natural gas ISX12 G engine Cummins Westport in April, by which time full U.S. EPA and California certifications will be in place. Limited quantities of the 385- and 400-horsepower versions of the new 11.9-liter spark-ignition engine will become available in July. Full-scale production of all variants is to commence in August.

Roush CleanTech and Blue Bird Bus are expected to announce an order for more than 400 propane auto-gas-fueled buses for the Omaha and Millard Public Schools in Nebraska on Wednesday. Student Transportation, Inc. (NASDAQ:STB) disclosed the deal Tuesday, calling it “the largest transportation agreement in its history.”
