Program for Off-Hour/Late Night Ops Includes $2,000 Incentive

The New York City Department of Transportation is offering rebates for scrapping or replacing older diesel trucks, continuing a five-year initiative focused on the South Bronx through HPCTP, the Hunts Point Clean Trucks Program.

$200 Million to Expand E-Drive Engineering, Bring All to Pontiac

General Motors said Wednesday that it is investing $200 million in its Global Powertrain Engineering Headquarters at Pontiac, Mich. with a focus on advanced electric propulsion, and that it will consolidate work at four locations there. A new, 138,000-square-foot test wing is to be completed during the second half of 2014.

Auto Plant in Marysville Will Expand, Adding 50 U.S. Jobs,
Japan-Built Plug-In EPA-Rated at 115 MPGe in Battery Mode

Honda of America Manufacturing says it will invest $23 million and hire approximately 50 people at its Marysville, Ohio auto plant to add production of the new two-motor Accord Hybrid Sedan, slated to go on sale nationwide this fall. It will be the third Honda hybrid built in the U.S. and the first in Ohio.

Industry Pleased Too at Friday’s Positive Court Ruling

The U.S. biodiesel industry broke the 1 billion gallon mark in 2012 for the second consecutive year, the National Biodiesel Board reports, citing year-end production figures released January 23 by the U.S. EPA. The total volume of nearly 1.1 billion gallons was roughly flat over 2011 production, exceeding it by just 6 million gallons, NBB says.

Quarries Like Omya’s in Vermont Could Boost Demand

Quarries and sand pits need fuel for their dryer furnaces, and a switch from diesel fuel oil to liquefied natural gas for them could ease the way for the same operations to fuel their hard-working trucks with LNG too. That’s the word from Houston this week, where Zeus Development is hosting the World LNG Fuels through Wednesday noon. Michael Laurent of Switzerland-based Omya explained how his company is modifying its furnaces in Vermont for marble drying for natural gas dual fuel operation, and is interested in the cheaper cleaner fuel for its trucks as well.

Westport HD-Powered 386 Model Trucks to Haul Liquid Fuel

Kenan Advantage is deploying 25 liquefied natural gas-fueled Peterbilt 386 tractors to haul fuels including gasoline and diesel in the Phoenix area. The trucks will fuel at a new America’s Natural Gas Highway station by Clean Energy Fuels in West Phoenix.

New Flyer Industries continues to rack up the transit orders. The Winnipeg-based manufacturer is adding compressed natural gas-fueled buses for Southern California’s Orange County and New York City, plus hybrids for California’s Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, to recent CNG wins and contracts in Los Angeles and San Diego.

$10 Million Marcellus Area Project to Extend into Pennsylvania

IGS Energy CNG Services says it will build and operate compressed natural gas corridor in West Virginia, “a first of its kind initiative in the state since the discovery of the Marcellus Shale.” The initial phase of the $10 million effort will include a station in Mt. Morris, Pa., IGS said.
