Partnership to Be Emphasized at the Work Truck Show

Massachusetts-based XL Hybrids, which has developed kits to convert Class 1 to 3 commercial vans to hybrid electric operations for about $8,000, has disclosed an installation partnership and distribution agreement with Leggett & Platt.

First of Three Truck Stop Stations Is Opening Next Week

Shell Canada is in the final shakedown phase for its plan to offer liquefied natural gas for heavy duty trucks in Alberta. Shell is to commence test fueling with Bison Transport at the first of three LNG Shell Flying J stations, in Calgary, later this week.

Michigan start-up Inventev is aiming for the aftermarket with a low-cost hybrid system that will allow work trucks to travel as far as 50 miles on batteries alone, and provide power takeoff electricity for tools and lifts and even small neighborhoods at the jobsite.

Sheriff in North Carolina Runs Ten Cruisers on Propane

The Sheriff’s Office in Buncombe County, N.C., expects to save more than $13,000 per year – and is displacing 20 tons of greenhouse gas emissions – by running ten Ford Crown Victoria cruisers on propane autogas. Buncombe received funding under SPADP, the Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program, administered by Virginia Clean Cities.

Largest Order for Mercedes Vito E-Cell Vans in Europe to Date

Daimler’s Mercedes unit reports an order for 50 battery electric Vito E-Cell panel vans for Post Danmark, the Danish postal service – and says it’s the largest order for the zero-emission vehicle in Europe to date. The order follows a successful field test on the island of on the Danish island of Bornholm.
