Efacec says it’s the first company to receive ETL certification for the SAE Combo-connected electric vehicle fast charger, applicable to U.S.- and European-built EVs. “This means the units will now be able to serve all electric plug-in vehicles available in the U.S. that are capable of receiving a DC Fast Charge,” Efacec says.

La Crosse, Wisc.-based Kwik Trip celebrated the opening of its 15th compressed natural gas station in Janesville, Wisc. on Wednesday, and said it plans to add ten more before the end of the calendar year.

Fourth Annual Conference in Elizabeth Next Month

The Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition is holding its fourth annual Greening Your Fleet conference at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana Casino in Elizabeth, Ind. September 23-25.

Every alternative fuel and technology has its own distinct advantages, which can include domestic availability, widespread distribution infrastructure, low cost and low emissions, organizers note.

“There’s no one silver bullet,” they say, promising “timely, credible information” for fleet operators.

Organizers of NGV Global 2014 have issued a Call for Papers, setting October 31 as the deadline for submission of presentation abstracts. NGV Global 2014 itself takes place May 5-9, co-located with ACT Expo 2014 at the Long Beach Convention Center, adjacent to Los Angeles.

Vehicle in Ventura ‘Brings Us One Step Closer to Commercializing’

Camarillo, Calif.-based Cool Planet is talking up the successful trial of its biomass-derived synthetic gasoline with the Ventura County Parks Department. There, officials ran a 5% blend of Cool Planet’s renewable, low-carbon gasoline for during their normal operations six weeks.

Smith Also to Provide 30 Trucks for CTE Effort in Houston-Galveston Area

Smith Electric Vehicles has disclosed a Letter of Intent to form a joint venture with Taikang Technology Corp in Taiwan. The next step, Smith says, is a definitive licensing agreement to cover assembly and distribution of all-electric vehicles in Taiwan, “opening up an important new market.” Separately, the Houston-Galveston Area Council and CTE, the Center for Transportation and the Environment said Smith is to provide 30 diesel-replacing delivery trucks.

2,000 Miles of Hybrid System Evaluation on ‘Hotbuck’ Unit

BAE Systems reports completion of 2,000 miles of tests of the hybrid electric driveline for the U.S. Army’s Ground Combat Vehicle on its “Hotbuck” rig in Santa Clara, Calif. The tests indicate that a hybrid GCV will have greater agility, acceleration and maneuverability than a comparable mechanical system, and that the hybrid vehicle will use up to 20% less fuel than a conventionally powered GCV.
