CFC NGVs Safety Workshop in October

Brussels CFC Gathering to Look at ‘Perception and Reality’

Brussels-based Clean Fuels Consulting is holding its sixth Critical Issues workshop related to natural gas vehicles. The CNG & LNG Safety: Perception and Reality workshop is slated for October 8-9 at the Hotel Le Chatelain, in Brussels.

“Despite having one of the best safety records in the transportation sector, compressed natural gas and liquefied natural gas continue to suffer from misperceptions in the marketplace that these clean fuels are more dangerous than diesel and gasoline,” says CFC principal Jeff Seisler.

“The reality,” he says, is that CNG and LNG are safer than gasoline and are as safe, or safer than diesel.

Perception of Safety Is Key to Market Acceptance

“But if policy makers, legislators, regulators and even customers don’t think so then the impact on NGV market development can be devastating.”

The Brussels workshop will address such issues as

  • How can the safety of NGV equipment and systems be guaranteed throughout the entire manufacturing and distribution chain so customers can be assured that the products are safe and reliable?
  • Will CNG and LNG safety be compromised by a lack of national enforcement of international standards and regulations, particularly in global markets where ‘cheap’ is a common market driver of technologies?
  • What can be learned from the 138 CNG/NGV recorded incidents occurring between 1976 and 2010 in order to ensure the safest possible fuel storage options in the future?
  • Are safety regulations for dangerous goods vehicles and inland shipping hampering the ability of new NGV technologies getting into the market?

Luxfer is the principal sponsor of the October CFC gathering, which will include a small table-top exhibition area.
