UPS has confirmed that the order for 200 E-Gen vans reported by Workhorse last month is indeed for UPS, stating that, “Equipped with lithium ion batteries and a range-extender engine, these trucks will deliver significant fuel economy equivalency gains, approximately four times the fuel economy of a gasoline powered vehicle.”

Chevrolet announced total sales of 100,000 range-extended Volt electric vehicles yesterday, stating that the plug-in hybrid EV is the “first model to reach milestone for plug-in vehicles.”

With 100,000 vehicles on the road, Volt drivers have saved nearly 58 million gallons of fuel, GM says.

“Not only is the Volt a class-creator, it serves as the foundation of a Chevrolet electric family that will soon add the first long-range, affordable EV available to customers across the U.S., the Chevrolet Bolt EV,” Chevrolet cars and crossovers marketing director Steve Majoros said in a release.

Since sales of the Chevrolet Volt began, owners have driven almost 1.5 billion miles in EV mode of a total 2.5 billion cumulative miles.

More Battery Range in 2017

The second-generation Volt for 2017 “improves on the pioneering work of the original,” adding additional electric-only range, improved fuel economy of 106 mpg-e and 42 mpg, and a chassis that’s lighter by 220 pounds.

Chevrolet says it expects that the average 2017 Volt driver who fully charges the car regularly to travel more than 1,000 miles between gasoline fill-ups.
