Ethanol

Coskata
Valero-hosted Propel Fuels station in the firm's headquarters town of Redwood City, Calif. is to open by the end of April

Probably the most ubiquitous of biofuels in that its use is common (in relatively low percentages, increased in 2010 to 15%) in conventional gasoline, ethanol has also become of the most controversial, as the former boom in corn-based product has given way to concerns over the alcohol fuel's impact on food supplies.

Thus a key emphasis is on development of cellulosic ethanol, based on agricultural or timber industry waste, or other ingredient materials, But while cellulosic ethanol doesn't affect food markets, it remains for the most part uneconomical.

The Renewable Fuels Association’s National Ethanol Conference will be held February 22-24 in Phoenix.
