California’s Enova Systems (AMEX:ENA) reports ongoing business with China’s First Auto Works, noting last week that it shipped an additional 50 hybrid electric drive systems to FAW in December, and has just received an incremental order of another 50 for delivery early this year.

Since the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Enova and FAW have deployed nearly 500 vehicles, all with Enova’s pre-transmission hybrid drive system components.

Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp has a 'Green for Free' program with drivetrain supplier Enova Systems, whereby the suppliers ship 100% electric vehicles for the price of conventional ones, and the battery cost is made up in operational savings.

FAW builds more than 1 million vehicles per year, Enova says. Enova’s drive will be integrated and branded under the name of Jiefang CA6120URH hybrid, a 40-foot, 103-passenger city bus. The FAW business “solidifies Enova as a tier one production supplier of unique clean vehicle solutions, capable of serving the largest vehicle OEMs in the world,” company president Mike Staran said in a release.

Enova continues to promote its “Green for Free” program with Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp, whereby the suppliers ship battery electric vehicles for the price of conventional ones, and the premium is made up in operational savings (F&F, November 28).
