Technologies Range from Pure Heavy Electric Trucks to DME
PortTech Los Angeles is gearing up for the fourth annual PortTechExpo, a one-day event being held September 11 at the Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles meeting center in San Pedro, Calif.
Speakers include Federal Maritime Commission chairman Mario Cordero and Eric Garcetti, the new mayor of Los Angeles.
Exhibits will cover such diverse technologies as a pure battery electric heavy duty truck from San Diego’s TransPower and dimethyl ether, a clean fuel for diesel cycle engines that can be made from biomass.
DME is the focus of a new partnership between Volvo Truck and California’s Oberon Fuels, under which at least two Safeway trucks are to be run on the new fuel (F&F, June 11).
Public Edification Too
TransPower said in July that it has secured $3.7 million from public agencies in support of a demonstration of advanced electric Class 8 drayage trucks at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach (F&F, July 10).
After PortTechExpo wraps up on Wednesday afternoon, organizers are staging “Clean Tech – Cool Tech” with public-oriented technology demonstrations, interactive displays “and the latest advancements in clean technology solutions for port communities.”
PortTech Los Angeles is also spreading the word that next year’s PortTechExpo will take place on September 17, 2014.
