Flex-to-Green is “a unique product designed to ease the transition to a greener fleet,” Ryder says: “Start out with a standard vehicle today along with an option to convert to a natural gas vehicle.

“You get immediate credit for launching a green initiative, while signaling strategic intent to key stakeholders.”

Florida-based Source Interlink, an international distributor of specialty magazines, has signed a Flex-to-Green lease agreement for seven trucks. Ryder is deploying 202 compressed natural gas- and and liquefied natural gas-fueled trucks in the Ontario, Calif. area, where Source Interlink has one of its largest distribution centers.

“With a fleet of over 300 vehicles,” Source Interlink senior operations VP Jim Tate says in a Ryder release, “fuel volatility and cost is an important issue… The option of using a cheaper and readily available fuel supply such as natural gas to power our vehicles and mitigate fuel costs is an attractive avenue we’d like to explore.

“We appreciate the flexibility that Ryder makes available through the Flex-to-Green lease offering, which will allow us to pilot alternative fuel vehicles within our fleet,” Tate said.
