Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies had a busy time at ACT Expo, announcing a $4.8 million purchase order from Agility Fuel Systems for “lightest in the industry” Type IV compressed natural gas fuel tanks, and disclosing that it’s using motors from Remy International in the F-Drive brand parallel hybrid electric drivetrain for the plug-in Ford F-150 it displayed at the show.
The CNG purchase order is for Quantum’s line of large-diameter carbon composite tanks developed specifically to mount on the frame rail in Class 6-8 heavy duty trucks. The tanks with their new design features will be available from Agility in their integrated systems starting in August.
“We expect the increase in demand for Quantum’s natural gas tanks to continue to accelerate, as more fleets realize the true cost benefits,” said new Quantum CEO Brian Olson.
Quantum just prior to ACT Expo announced the resignation of Alan Niedzwiecki and Dale Rasmussen from their posts as president and CEO, and executive chairman.
On the PHEV side, Quantum said it will integrate the HVH250 traction motor by Remy into its “F-Drive” parallel hybrid system that delivers an all-electric range of 35 miles and a hybrid operational range of 400 miles on the Ford F-150 pickup. The vehicle has been specifically designed for corporate fleets, including current customers Florida Power & Light and Dow Chemical, Quantum said.
