The upscale retailer Williams-Sonoma deployed its first CNG-fueled shuttle today, a 33-passenger F-550 chassis vehicle purchased with the support of the California Energy Commission.

The upscale retailer Williams-Sonoma on June 29 deployed its first CNG-fueled shuttle, a 33-passenger F-550 chassis beauty upfitted with Clean Energy Fuels-BAF engine equipment and Luxfer Type III fuel tanks, by Creative Bus Sales.

The vehicle was upfitted by Creative Bus Sales using Clean Energy Fuels-BAF engine equipment and Luxfer Type III fuel tanks for a gasoline gallon equivalent of 54 GGE. The vehicle has a 6.8-liter Ford V-10 engine.

Purchasing chief Warren Ganda cut the ribbon.

As a new bus was needed for the five-unit fleet, “We wanted to make sure we’re doing something for the environment,” Williams Sonoma senior purchasing manager Warren Ganda told F&F after cutting the ribbon for the new vehicle at a brief ceremony at the firm’s headquarters near San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf.

CEC picked up $20,000 of the vehicle’s $29,000 price premium over a gasoline model, according to Ganda and Creative’s Jon Fink.

This baby is outfitted for bicycles too!

Clean Energy Fuels business development manager Mark Watkins was on hand. He said he hopes the CNG commitment by Williams-Sonoma prompts other San Francisco retailers to deploy CNG vehicles too.
