The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada – Las Vegas RTC – has taken delivery of 40 dedicated-CNG shuttle buses with Impco fuel systems.
The vehicles are built on Ford E-450 cutaway chassis with Glaval bodies.
They have 6.8-liter V-10 engines and were converted to compressed natural gas operation by Impco Automotive in Union City, Ind. Impco holds both U.S. EPA and California Air Resources Board certifications for the type.
Impco used Type IV CNG tanks from Lincoln Composites, vertically mounted, for the RTC job.
The new shuttles are for RTC’s paratransit operation, a reservation-based, door-to-door service.
For its fixed routes, RTC operates 52 full-size 40-foot CNG transit buses, and 120 hybrid electrics: 40 are 40-footers and 60 are articulated vehicles for BRT – bus rapid transit.
