Chesapeake Takes Message to Conventions

Natural Gas Is Domestic Energy for Republicans and Democrats

Chesapeake Energy went to the Republican National Convention this past week, giving delegates to Tampa the natural gas and natural gas vehicles “101 in five minutes or less,” says market development director Norman Herrera.

Chesapeake Energy market development director Norman Herrera explained the benefits of natural gas at the GOP convention, where delegates rode buses supplied by Ultimate CNG and ANGA, America’€™s Natural Gas Alliance.

Delegates were provided transportation via compressed natural gas buses supplied by Ultimate CNG and ANGA, America’s Natural Gas Alliance (F&F, August 28).

Chesapeake offered free mobile device charging – and coffee – to get people to stop at its stand in the convention center foyer. Herrera told conventioneers that natural gas is a clean, domestic fuel and that it can be used to fuel cars and trucks more cheaply than gasoline or diesel.

Herrera says that Chesapeake and its new Peake Fuel Solutions affiliate will, as planned, detail plans for deployment of GE’s CNG In A Box modular fueling units at the NACS convention in Las Vegas in October. The National Association of Convenience Stores is holding its 2012 show October 7-10.

Chesapeake is meanwhile securing final permits and is “pouring concrete” for two public access installations that will use CNG In A Box units to support NGVs in Texas locations where the company has natural gas production operations, Herrera said.

Next Stop? The DNC in Charlotte September 4-6. “We’ll be talking CNG with the Democrats as well,” Herrera told F&F.
