Two Events Next Week in Southern California
Open house events hosted by Ryder System on October 30 and November 1 will include a first public showing – with ride-and-drive availability – of trucks from China upfitted with dedicated-natural gas GM engines by Greenkraft, Inc.
Ryder is hosting the Tuesday event at its facility in Orange, Calif. and the Thursday event in Rancho Dominguez.
Greenkraft’s trucks are based on chassis from JAC, China’s Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Company. JAC ships gliders to California, where GreenKraft installs compressed natural gas fuel systems and GM engines. The truck for the Ryder events will be a 17,950-pound GVW chassis with 6.0-liter engine.
Ryder for Louisiana, New York and Texas?
Greenkraft has an order for 20 trucks for Ryder in California and hopes to add 20 more. It has also quoted 20 trucks for Ryder in Louisiana, says VP Frank Ziegler. It is working toward 20-unit sales in New York and Texas as well, for a total of 100.
Greenkraft holds U.S. EPA and California Air Resources Board certifications for both the 6.0- and 4.8-liter GM engines, and says it plans to have 2013 approvals in hand for the start of the New Year.
Ryder will also be showcasing Freightliner and Peterbilt vehicles next week.
