WiNG Upfits Reduced by $250 to an ‘Industry-Leading’ $9,500

Westport LD spread the word Friday that it’s reducing the price of its Westport WiNG compressed natural gas-gasoline bi-fuel upfits for Ford F-250 and F-350 pickups by $250, to an “industry-leading” $9,500, starting with 2013 vehicles.

Westport LD’€™s WKIC –€“ the Westport Kentucky Integration Center, integrated with the Ford assembly plant in Louisville, formally opened its doors on June 26.

“We are doing this to make CNG vehicles more accessible to large and small fleets as well as to individuals,” VP and managing director John Lapetz said in a release.

The Westport WiNG package was announced in 2011 and is now in full production at the Westport Kentucky Integration Center in Louisville (F&F, June 23). It can save fleet operators $2 or more per gallon, the company says, “and demonstrate positive payback in about two years.”

CNG range is about 300 miles, and the trucks can travel an additional 350 miles on gasoline.

Pioneer Natural Resources is a major customer, having ordered 225 trucks (F&F, August 6).

“Westport feels it is extremely important to accelerate the adoption of natural gas vehicles that have the potential to cut operating costs, reduce emissions and take advantage of an abundant, domestic resource,” Lapetz said.

Westport LD is a unit of Westport Innovations (NASDAQ:WPRT or Toronto:WPT).
