Order Dating from Orion Days Fulfilled in Crookston, Minn.
New Flyer Industries (Toronto:NFI) is fulfilling an order for 74 compressed natural gas-fueled 40-foot buses for the New York City Transit Authority, picking up a contract initially signed with Daimler Orion. Daimler discontinued the Orion brand earlier this year (F&F, May 7). The assigned contract included an additional 30 option buses that were not ordered, New Flyer said.
The New Flyer buses have 8.9-liter ISL G engines from Cummins Westport and Type IV all-composite CNG fuel cylinders from Lincoln Composites.
Final assembly is taking place at New Flyer’s Crookston, Minn. facility. All of the new vehicles are to be delivered by year-end.
“The buses will be virtually identical to New Flyer’s existing contract with NYCT for 385 buses,” New Flyer said, adding, “This contract assignment further extends the long standing partnership between New Flyer and NYCT by providing a proven and reliable product, supported by New Flyer warranty, service and lifetime customer care.”
