HHP Summit 2013 September 17-19 at McCormick Place Lakeside
The HHP Summit 2013 gathering of high horsepower natural gas professionals will take place September 17-19 at the McCormick Place Lakeside Center in Chicago: “Significant growth is expected as North American momentum builds for the increased use of lower cost and lower emission natural gas in commercial marine, oil and gas exploration and production, locomotive, mining and other in off-road high horsepower applications,” says the organizer.
The inaugural HHP Summit in Houston this past September drew some 800 attendees – nothing short of spectacular for a first-time conference.
The organizer is Gladstein, Neandross & Associates, publisher of Fleets & Fuels and the new HHP Insight.
“Already the nation’s largest conference and exposition of its kind, the second annual High Horsepower Summit is expected to draw increased crowds and industry participation as the use of lower cost domestic natural gas continues to surge,” GNA said in a Friday release.
Returning presenting sponsors are Caterpillar, Encana, and AGL Resources.
‘An Absolute Revolution’
Like GNA’s successful ACT Expo series, the HHP Summit attracts end-users. For HHP, they come from the marine, rail, energy exploration and production (E&P), mining and other industries using fuel-hungry, high horsepower engines. All are finding that they can save money with natural gas.
“Every single major locomotive operator, marine vessel owner, driller, pressure pumping company, and mining operation in North America is now looking at the huge cost saving opportunity presented by a switch to natural gas,” GNA CEO Erik Neandross said in a release.
“There is an absolute revolution underway and we are extremely excited to again be working with our presenting sponsors and other stakeholders to bring this important event to the Windy City.”
Switching to natural gas can mean fuel cost savings of 30% to 50% for operators of large equipment traditionally powered by diesel. New engines and technologies are coming to the market, there is innovation in fueling equipment and new commitments to deploy the equipment where it’s needed.
New liquefied natural gas production plants are coming on line and compressed natural gas, increasing popular for vehicles, is being used for E&P too.
Bigger and Better
Caterpillar, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of high horsepower engines, chose the 2012 HHP Summit to proclaim its commitment to natural gas. “We decided to go all in on gas,” Joel Feucht, director of gas engine strategy for Caterpillar’s energy and power systems division, said in the keynote address in Houston. “If you’re waiting for someone to decide, let me just tell you that we decided.”
“We expect larger crowds, more cutting-edge equipment on display, a fantastic lineup of technical session and speakers, and an all-around tremendously successful event,” said GNA’s Neandross.
“By the time we get to September, several big announcements in the industry will have been made and several new important new natural gas technology demonstration projects will have begun; the timing of this event could not be any better.”
