Axle Back Tractor Has CWI’s New ISX12 G Engine
Mack Trucks unveiled its natural gas Mack Pinnacle axle back model tractor with 11.9-liter ISX12 G engine by Cummins Westport, Inc. during the 2013 Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville this week. The LNG-fueled vehicle was built for UPS and shown in UPS brown livery.
The new Pinnacle expands Mack’s natural gas lineup to the highway segment. The firm already offers natural gas-powered TerraPro Low Entry and TerraPro Cabover refuse models, and said at MATS that later this year, its plans to introduce a natural gas-powered version of the Granite model.
CNG Available Too
“Mack began offering natural gas as an option as soon as it was clear the solution made sense for the refuse market,” Mack Trucks North American sales and marketing president Kevin Flaherty said in a release at the show. “The introduction of the natural gas-powered Mack Pinnacle expands our experience and expertise into another market segment, and serves as an example of our commitment to developing solutions meeting the needs of customers like UPS.”
“By expanding the UPS natural gas fleet, we have an opportunity to take advantage of a domestic resource, a domestic product and continue our sustainability efforts,” UPS alt fuel vehicle engineering director Mike Britt said in the Mack announcement.
The Mack Pinnacle is available with LNG or compressed natural gas fuel systems.
