‘First EPA Certification for a Model Year 2014 Bi-Fuel Passenger Sedan’
Impco Automotive’s new compressed natural gas-gasoline Chevrolet Cruze represents the “first EPA certification for a model year 2014 bi-fuel passenger sedan,” Impco says – and “the only” U.S. EPA-certified bi-fuel sedan for 2014 on the U.S. market. The CNG car is to be available in September.
Impco is a subsidiary of Fuel Systems Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:FSYS).
“The aftermarket kits we have developed for the model year 2014 Chevrolet Cruze offer a robust solution that eliminates ‘range anxiety’ by including an 8.4 gasoline gallon equivalent (GGE) tank as standard equipment,” Fuel Systems CEO Mariano Costamagna said in a release.
Impco literature shows a lightweight, carbon fiber-on-aluminum Type III CNG tank by SCI-Worthington. It provides more than 200 miles of natural gas range, Impco says, while allowing nearly 7 cubic feet of storage space.
Bosch and GFI
The bi-fuel Chevy Cruze has a 1.4-liter GM engine. Impco use Bosch injectors and a GFI regulator.
“Our expansion into passenger vehicles is strategically important to our growth plans,” Costamagna said. “The availability of the MY2014 Chevrolet Cruze will help meet the increasing interest of U.S. fleets and consumers for bi-fuel passenger vehicles.”
Impco says it will pursue development and compliance of the new bi-fuel CNG system through model year 2016.
