Wisconsin C-Store Operator Plans Ten More by Year-End

La Crosse, Wisc.-based Kwik Trip celebrated the opening of its 15th compressed natural gas station in Janesville, Wisc. on Wednesday, and said it plans to add ten more before the end of the calendar year.

Kwik Trip says it “has committed to developing a functional CNG fueling infrastructure throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa.”

It is doing so at both its current network of stores, and by building new fueling locations. The strategy “will allow Kwik Trip to provide the best and most functional natural gas vehicle fueling infrastructure possible.”

Currently, the company says, there are operational CNG Kwik Trip stations in

  • La Crosse, Wisc. (2);
  • Sturtevant, Wisc.;
  • Rochester, Minn.;
  • Oshkosh, Wisc. (2);
  • Minnesota City, Minn.;
  • Owatonna, Minn.;
  • Pewaukee, Wisc.;
  • Sheboygan, Wisc.;

  • Cedar Falls, Iowa;
  • Verona, Wisc.;
  • St. Michael, Minn.; and
  • Janesville, Wisc.

The new stations for 2013 will be in

  • Eagan, Minn.;
  • Mankato, Minn.;
  • Baldwin, Wisc.;
  • New Berlin, Wisc.;
  • Plover, Wisc.;
  • Oak Creek, Wisc.;
  • Waterloo, Iowa;
  • De Pere, Wisc.;
  • Menomonie, Wisc.;
  • Wausau, Wisc.; and
  • Albert Lea, Minn.

Kwik Trip says that as a privately held company, it “has taken on the task to expand its fuel offerings using only its own internal resources and expertise… [leveraging a] vertical integration model to help foster the growth of NGVs in its market.”

Kwik Trip operates more than 400 stores in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa, and has a distribution fleet, Convenience Transportation, that logs some 18 million miles per year. The company owns and operates 50 natural gas vehicles, and says it is switching its entire fleet to natural gas.
