Kwik Trip Nears Two Dozen CNG Stations

C-store operator and Upper Midwest alt fuels leader Kwik Trip has already opened two new compressed natural gas fueling outlets during the young New Year (bringing its total to 22), promises three more in the coming months, and is aiming for as many as 15 new CNG stations by year-end.

New Kwik Trip CNG sites have opened in Eagan, Minn. and De Pere, Wisc. Locations in Waterloo, Iowa and in Wausau and Menomonie, Wisc. “will also open in the coming months,” the company said Monday.

In Less Than Two Years…

Kwik Trip says that it opened its first CNG location in April of 2012 and “has since then continued to develop a functional CNG fueling infrastructure at 22 locations throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa.” There are operational CNG Kwik Trip stations in

  • La Crosse, Wisc. (2);
  • Sturtevant, Wisc.;
  • Rochester, Minn.;
  • Oshkosh, Wisc. (2);
  • Minnesota City, Minn.;
  • Owatonna, Minn.;
  • Pewaukee, Wisc.;
  • Grand Chute, Wisc.;
  • Sheboygan, Wisc.;
  • Eagan, Minn.;
  • Cedar Falls, Iowa;
  • Verona, Wisc.;
  • St. Michael, Minn.;
  • Mankato, Minn.;
  • Baldwin, Wisc.; Janesville, Wisc.;
  • Oak Creek, Wisc.;
  • Waukesha, Wisc.; New Berlin, Wisc.; and
  • De Pere, Wisc.

Kwik Trip CNG costs between $1.59 and $1.89 per gasoline gallon equivalent, the company says.

“As a privately held company, Kwik Trip has taken on the task to expand its fuel offerings using only its own internal resources and expertise,” states the announcement.

Kwik Trip Rolls Its Own Too

“Plans to continue the development of a natural gas infrastructure will continue in 2014 and will include ten to 15 new CNG locations, as the company looks to expand into new markets.”

The company says that own distribution fleet, Convenience Transportation, travels 18 million miles on an annual basis and now owns more than 50 natural gas-powered vehicles. “Through this fleet, all classes and sizes of vehicles are being tested, evaluated, and promoted, based on the company’s real world experiences.”
