MARTA Exercises Option, Another 88 Remain on the Contract
New Flyer Industries said Thursday that Georgia’s Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority has exercised options for 89 additional 40-foot Xcelsior buses powered by compressed natural gas.
The buses will be built using options converted from a contract announced in mid- 2013, New Flyer says. The contract included 88 firm orders and options for an additional 177. “Once this second order is complete, 88 options will remain on the contract.”
New Flyer president and CEO Paul Soubry praised MARTA “commitment to environmentally friendly natural gas and their aggressive bus fleet renewal efforts.”
89 New New Flyers to Be Delivered in Third Quarter
“This option conversion for 89 additional buses just seven months after the initial order reflects well on the quality of our product and the strong partnership that we have developed,” Soubry said in the announcement.
Production of the 89 buses is expected to begin production in the first quarter of 2014, with all to be delivered in the third quarter.
