Cummins Westport’s 11.9-Liter Engine to Be Available for 2015
Freightliner Trucks said Tuesday that the 11.9-liter ISX12 G natural gas engine by Cummins Westport will be available as a factory-installed option for the Freightliner 114SD severe duty truck model in 2015.
“The 114SD-ISX12 G combination will be ideal for the demanding jobs that the 114SD is designed for, such as mixer, crane and sewer vac,” Freightliner says. The engine features ratings of up to 400 horsepower and 1,450 foot-pounds torque.
Factory-installed back-of-cab mounted compressed natural gas tanks are to be available in 60 and 75 DGE/diesel gallon equivalent configurations.
‘Another Green Option’
The 114SD has been available with natural gas with the 9-liter Cummins Westport ISL G engine since 2011. It was the first new Freightliner truck to be available with natural gas fuel from its initial factory run.
“With the upcoming availability of the ISX12 G, fleets can get the horsepower and torque ratings they need to meet the toughest of applications,” Freightliner says.
“The 114SD, when paired with the Cummins Westport ISX12 G heavy-duty natural gas engine, will provide our vocational customers with another green option for their toughest jobs,” Mary Aufdemberg, director of product marketing for Freightliner Trucks, said in the 114SD announcement.
