Westport is adding to its 2015 model year line-up of compressed natural gas Ford vehicles, offering dedicated-CNG versions of Ford’s new Transit van and cutaway models. The all-CNG vehicles will be both U.S. EPA- and California Air Resources Board-certified, Westport says. updated July 25
The upfitter previously announced both dedicated-CNG and CNG-gasoline bi-fuel versions of the smaller Ford Transit Connect for 2015 (F&F, June 3).
Westport’s Transit vans and cutaways employ Ford’s 3.7-liter V-6 gaseous-prep engine.
20 or 23 GGEs
Westport anticipates as many as five dozen different configurations for its CNG-fueled Ford Transit vans and cutaways, with 20 or 23 gasoline gallon equivalent tank packages.
“Our compressed natural gas fueling system offers equivalent fuel economy and mileage, and a longer driving range compared to gasoline-only Ford Transit vans,” the company says.
Westport plans to use Q-Lite brand Type IV CNG fuel systems from Quantum for at least some of its numerous Transit variants.
