Agency Taking the First Deliveries of CNG Buses in Indiana
South Bend, Ind.-based Transpo has taken delivery of the first several of 16 compressed natural gas-fueled, 35-foot Xcelsior buses by New Flyer. The vehicles have 8.9-liter ISL G engines by Cummins Westport.
“We’re the first transit agency in the State of Indiana to take delivery of CNG-powered transit coaches,” general manager and CEO David Cangany told F&F.
Transpo has commenced training and other work as it prepares for the CNG vehicles to enter service late this year or early next, he says.
Transpo is to go out to bid for a public access CNG fueling facility in the next few weeks, Cangany says (in partnership with the City of South Bend) – and the agency is looking to hire a new maintenance director.
