World CNG and Las Vegas Resort Operator Claim Another Industry First
World CNG and MGM Resorts International in Las Vegas are trumpeting the nation’s first compressed natural gas-fueled Cadillac XTS limousines, reporting that the 22-foot-long luxury vehicles represent the third generation of CNG-fueled limousines and vehicles in the MGM Resorts fleet.

The Cadillac XTS limousines are 70 inches longer than traditional limos, giving them the designation of “stretch” limos, states a release. They are the first XTS limousines certified by Cadillac and the first-ever Cadillac XTS vehicles to be converted to CNG.
The new limousines produce only one-ninth of the emissions when compared to their predecessors, the discontinued gasoline-powered Lincoln Town Car limousines.
Clean Energy Fuels provides CNG for the MGM fleet, says Chris Magee, the resort organization’s director of sustainable facility development, from a public access station on MGM property. “It was our land,” says Chris Magee, the resort organization’s director of sustainable facility development.
‘Beyond the Price of the Vehicle’
“We looked at biodiesel, ethanol. electric vehicles, hydrogen and LPG” (propane autogas), he says. “CNG was the winner for us.”
The new Cadillac limousines have 3.6-liter direct injection engines with U.S. EPA-certified natural gas fuel systems, developed in-house by World CNG.
“The vehicles were crash-tested with our fuel system,” says World CNG president Garret Alpers. MGM, he told F&F, “is way invested in this beyond the price of the vehicle.”
MGM gas 32 of the new limousines and is getting two more, Alpers says.
CNG Escalades Too
“In addition to providing the highest standards in guest service, it’s essential that we continuously look to challenge the status quo in environmental sustainability,” said Aria Resort & Casino hotel operations VP Paul Berry said in a release.
Aria was the first MGM resort to deploy the CNG-fueled XTS. MGM Resorts operates the new CNG limousines at Aria, at the Bellagio Resort & Casino, at the MGM Grand Las Vegas and the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.
World CNG and MGM introduced the nation’s first commercial fleet of CNG Cadillac Escalades in summer 2013 (F&F, August 15, 2013).
MGM has run CNG-fueled Lincoln Town Car limousines since 2009.
In addition to hosting the Clean Energy CNG fueling station, MGM has 28 electric vehicle charging outlets, including four for Tesla EVs.
“For MGM it’s a leadership initiative,” Magee told F&F.
