Cummins Takes an Equity Stake in Agility Fuel Systems
Cummins, Inc. and Agility Fuel Systems said at ACT Expo in Dallas Tuesday “that they have entered into a strategic partnership intended to improve the natural gas vehicle user experience, and to drive adoption of natural gas as a vehicle fuel for the heavy duty truck and bus markets.”
Cummins, already the distribution entity for spark-ignition natural gas engines from the Cummins Westport joint venture, is making an undisclosed equity investment in Agility.
Cummins and Agility engineers have teamed with an eye to heavy NGVs with better fuel system-engine connections for improved vehicle performance – integration of software and hardware between the natural gas engine and the onboard fuel storage and delivery system, the firms say, will significantly improve performance and uptime.
Preventive Maintenance, Service when Needed
Proprietary telematics will allow for better preventive maintenance.
The firms said too that they “will integrate their sales and aftermarket support and distribution networks, to further enhance the end-user experience.”
The two want to bring “a more diesel-like experience to the natural gas vehicle user,” Cummins on-highway natural gas business GM Roe East told F&F.
“Our goal has always been to deliver a diesel-like experience,” Agility CEO Barry Engle said in a release. “This partnership with Cummins is a key enabler.”
ACT Expo 2015 runs through May 7 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas.
