Program Would Make for ‘Same Purchase Price as Diesel,’ They Say
Quantum Fuel Systems and U.S. Gain Clean Fuel – suppliers of lightweight CNG cylinders and onboard CNG fuel assemblies and CNG fueling stations, respectively, announced a supply and marketing alliance to package and place CNG trucks “through existing dealership relationships at the same purchase price as diesel trucks.”
“This program gives the fleet and truck operators the opportunity to defer paying any upfront capital requirements for fleets to convert to CNG and provides them immediate payback and on-going savings for up to five years,” Quantum president and CEO Brian Olson said in a release at ACT Expo 2015.
“We believe this opportunity to amortize the incremental cost of a CNG truck removes a challenging hurdle for fleets moving to CNG,” he said.
“This is the first of its kind program that allows carriers of all sizes to take advantage of the benefits of CNG,” said U.S. GM Bill Renz.
Kenworth T680 First
The program is to initially include a 123-DGE Quantum back-of-cab system on a Kenworth 680 truck. One payment plan would allow fleets to amortize the additional cost of the CNG fuel system via a CNG fuel contract with Gain. The CNG would be priced as low as $1.99 per gallon.
Via a second option, the customer would pay the incremental cost at the time of the vehicle purchase and would buy fuel from Gain at preferred pricing levels. “In both cases, the customer can lock in a low CNG fuel price for up to five years,” the companies said in Dallas.
The pricing program will leverage Gain Clean Fuel’s network of fueling stations throughout North America. It will initially be offered in Aurora, Colo., Des Moines, Charlotte, N.C., Nashville; Dallas, Oklahoma City, and Kansas City, Mo. Additional locations will be added this summer.
