New Total for CNG Fleet in Los Angeles Suburb Is 176
Republic Services is talking up the addition of 11 compressed natural gas-fueled solid waste collection trucks to its fleet in the Gardena, Calif. The CNG trucks replace older diesel-powered trucks, the company says, and bring the total number of natural gas vehicles operated by Republic in Gardena to 176.
“These new vehicles support our efforts to reduce carbon emissions,” Republic area president Ron Krall said in a release. “It means that almost 200 of our collection vehicles serving the Gardena and surrounding areas are fueled by CNG, which aligns with Republic’s long-term sustainability strategy.”
Put another way, 76% of Republic’s fleet serving the Gardena community is now powered by CNG. The firm operates a fueling station at its Gardena location to support the expanding CNG fleet.
300 CNG Trucks per Year
To date, Republic says, it’s deployed more than 2,250 CNG trucks in the U.S., and continues to do so at a rate of roughly 300 vehicles per year. Republic begin using CNG vehicles in 2005 in select markets, with significant growth occurring over the past five years.
The firm has 38 natural gas fueling stations.
