21 Autocar Collection Trucks Go to Work Today
Waste Industries launched a new fleet of 22 compressed natural gas refuse trucks in Wilmington, N.C. last week, and said that the vehicles would begin collecting trash from homes and businesses in New Hanover and Pender counties today.
“This is a $7 million project, including the filling apparatus, shop upgrades and vehicles,” the company said.
Autocar is the key vehicle supplier for Wilmington, for 21 collection trucks. There is also a new CNG service vehicle.
A new private time-fill CNG facility there can handle as many as 40 vehicles at the same time. “Currently, CNG fuel costs $1.86 per diesel equivalent gallon,” Waste Industries says, pegging the price premium for a CNG garbage truck at $35,000.
The company noted that it has CNG operations in Wake, Durham, Wilson, Pitt, Greene and Brunswick counties in North Carolina comprising more than 190 trucks. The company also operates in South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware.
