Electricity and CNG for AmeriPride, CNG for UPS
Green Alternative Systems is busily converting walk-in vans to 100% battery electric operation and compressed natural gas for AmeriPride – nine and 20 vehicles respectively – and is converting 185 vehicles for UPS to CNG for deployment in Colorado.
The 20 CNG vans are destined for AmeriPride’s Canadian Linen operation in Vancouver. They are Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp MT-55s with 6.0-liter GM engines and Morgan Olson bodies. GAS is using a proprietary CNG fuel system and Luxfer cylinders for the upfits, says GM Sean Connolly.
Separately, GAS is fitting nine Ford F-59 strip chassis vehicles with 100% battery electric drivelines from Motiv Power Systems for AmeriPride’s fleet based in Vernon, Calif. (F&F, March 1). They have motors from Canada’s TM4 and SoNick brand sodium nickel batteries from Fiamm.
UPS Adds On
UPS confirms that GAS is converting 185 package cars to CNG operation for Colorado.
They are in addition to the 600 announced last year and, “We’re looking for opportunities to do more,” UPS procurement chief Mike Casteel told F&F.
