The move furthers a “longstanding relationship,” notes Westport VP and managing director Paul Shaffer. The firms have done business together since the 1990s.

“We’re taking this to the next level,” Shaffer told F&F. “They’ll be our national bus distributor.”

A Ford QVM for Ford-Chassis Vehicles

“Given Westport’s extensive background as a Ford-approved system manufacturer and A-1’s depth of experience in the shuttle bus industry, this partnership makes a lot of sense,” said A-1 national sales manager Will Gutilla.

“We are confident that together we will offer not only a high-quality product, but also tremendous post-delivery support to shuttle bus users all over the country.”

Close to the Markets

The partnership is focused on Ford E-450 and F-450 and F-550 vehicles with the 6.8-liter V-10 engines.

Westport is attracted by A-1’s location in Fresno, Calif., which is central to the big West Coast market, and in Elkhart, Ind., effectively the national capital for shuttle buses, Shaffer says. He notes too that A-1 is a Ford QMV – qualified vehicle modifier.
