A New Fuel Cylinder Assembly Holds 115 DGEs,
Drop-In Fuel Management Modules Offered Too
Momentum Fuel Technologies has added a 115-DGE/diesel gallon equivalent tailgate system to its lineup of compressed natural gas fuel system products for Class 6 to Class 8 trucks.
“This tailgate system has the largest fuel capacity available on the market,” the company says.
“We are committed to supporting the refuse industry with a complete offering of CNG options for all refuse applications,” Momentum GM Mike Zimmerman said in a release.
Only Three Cylinders
The new tailgate system was designed for E-Z Pack, which according t Momentum had previously used five- and six-tank tailgate systems on its refuse bodies. “We set out to design a system for E-Z Pack that could contain the same or increased fuel capacity as their old system but with reduced weight, to keep costs in check,” Zimmerman said.
“We were able to increase capacity from 105 DGE to 115 DGE using only three tanks, and this system is 400 pounds lighter than E-Z Pack’s previous system.”
The Momentum assembly is designed to be scalable, with a smaller, two-tank 75-DGE system available as well.
Easy to See Fuel Level, and Safer, Too
The design features a visible pressure gauge, Momentum says, “so drivers and technicians can see the pressure in the tank from ground level.”
The CNG tanks are at least seven feet off the ground with a steel guard structure around the base, designed to be safer in the event of a rear impact. Further, the company adds, the tailgate system has a lower profile than other CNG configurations, for enhanced safety of refuse vehicles.
New Drop-In FMM and a Pact with Geotab
Momentum has also introduced a fuel management module “as a direct replacement,” said Zimmerman, “for other, less efficient FMMs on the market for heavy- and medium-duty vehicles… valuable to customers who need to replace their previous FMM and want a new system which was designed with performance, serviceability and durability in mind.”
Last, Momentum notes that Geotab has introduced fuel level and temperature monitoring capability for its CNG systems, describing it as “a breakthrough for the industry, [as] fleets with CNG vehicles can now have the powerful visibility into their fuel usage and driver behavior that is already offered to other vehicles using Geotab’s fleet management solution.
“This integration,” Momentum said, “addresses the industry’s limited ability to use telematics to report CNG level from the vehicle for accurate fuel level readings.”
