ElDorado National – California Gets $200 Million Contract
And Critical NtP for 295 Forty-Foot CNG-Fueled Transit Buses,
Local Employment Was Factor, as ENC Builds Buses in Riverside
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority last week awarded a $199.1 million contract to ElDorado National – California for 295 forty-foot compressed natural gas-fueled transit buses. Also received from the agency is an NtP/notice to proceed.
Pre-production meetings to nail down final design and componentry of the vehicles are to commence next week.
A New Relationship
The LA Metro board approved ENC as the supplier of up to 600 CNG buses earlier this summer (F&F, June 27). The agency is a new customer for ENC, and ENC is s new supplier to the agency.
LA Metro is the nation’s largest operator of CNG buses. The agency’s last diesel bus was retired in 2011.
One Pilot Bus Expected
Local employment was a factor in the overall evaluation. All of ENC’s manufacturing takes place in Riverside, east of Los Angeles.
ENC expects to build a pilot bus based on its Axess platform. When LA Metro accepts that vehicle, the company will proceed with 294 more. The agency has an option, valid for five years, for 305 additional buses.
