Panasonic for Ford

Japan’s Panasonic said it will supply lithium ion battery cells for Ford’s hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, including “upcoming models of the Ford Fusion Hybrid Electric and C-Max Hybrid Electric as well as the Ford Fusion Energi and C-Max Energi plug-in hybrids.”

The lithium ion agreement with Ford builds on a long partnership, Panasonic said, as Sanyo Electric, which was acquired by Panasonic last year, has been supplying nickel metal hydride batteries for the Ford Escape Hybrid since 2004. Panasonic said in November that it will supply lithium ion batteries for Toyota’s plug-in Prius.
