Motors and inverters for Battery Electric Buses
Siemens will supply permanent magnet excited motors, inverters and voltage protection modules for the rear-axle drive systems of seven new all-electric buses being manufactured by DesignLine for STM, Canada’s Montreal Transit Authority.
The sale is pursuant to a $5.9 million deal with Société de transport de Montréal disclosed by DesignLine in May, Siemens says. The new vehicles, described by DesignLine engineering VP Josh Anderson as “a brand new, scratch-build design for us,” will be 36-passenger “midi buses” with a single-charge range of approximately 100 miles on a single charge.
There are more than 1,500 hybrid drive systems with Siemens equipment in operation worldwide, hybrid drives business manager Thomas Orberger said in the announcement.
DesignLine has its own proprietary controls, and will use Zebra batteries from Fiamm, Anderson told F&F.
