Trio Including New Luxury SUV to Be Revealed at NAIAS
Via Motors said Thursday that chief spokesman Bob Lutz, “father of the Chevy Volt and automotive industry icon,” plans to unveil three new full-size, range-extended electric vehicles at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 14.
The new eREVs, Via says, will include the “X-Truck,” a four-wheel-drive pickup with an 800-horsepower option, a technology-packed, luxury class four-wheel-drive SUV, and the first-ever extended range electric 12-passenger van, for ride-share and shuttle applications.
“These three new offerings demonstrate VIA’s commitment to electrify the top-selling vehicles that use the most gas and can therefore benefit the most from converting to low-cost electric fuel,” Via president Alan Perriton said in a release.
‘Huge Operational Savings’
Via says it works with OEM partners to build electric versions of popular vehicles using Via technology, “enabling full-size trucks, vans and SUVs to drive like the top-selling Chevy Volt, allowing them to perform the same duty as a conventional vehicle, while capturing huge operational savings that can pay for the vehicle over time.”
