Bundles Make for ‘One-Stop Shops for EV Drivers’

Southern California’s AeroVironment is talking up a program making it easier for electric vehicle dealers to offer turnkey residential EV chargers, with charger financing and warranties, all as part of a vehicle sale package.

AeroVironment last year made its 240-volt Level 2 EV chargers available through Amazon (F&F, October 16).

The new dealer program is the first of its kind, AeroVironment says. It makes dealerships into “one-stop-shops for EV drivers,” expanding dealers’ finance and insurance (F&I) offerings.

“The AeroVironment dealer program provides a complete, seamless experience for our customers,” James Azzaro, commercial vehicle sales manager at John Howard Motors in Morgantown, W.Va. says in the AroVironment announcement. “Not only does it make us a one-stop-shop, but it also guarantees support for our customers.”

John Howard Motors in Morgantown has four Level 2 chargers by AeroVironment: two inside for technicians, and two outside for drivers.

The agency has four Level 2 chargers, two outside for drivers, and two inside for technicians, Azzaro told F&F.

“AeroVironment is putting the second half of the EV equation – the home charger – at the vehicle’s point of sale,” AeroVironment senior VP (for efficient energy systems) Wahid Nawabi says in the announcement. “This makes it easier for drivers to purchase, and for dealers to participate more actively in the evolution toward clean, electric transportation.”

Training and Marketing Support

Dealers can offer various warranty options that match the financing terms of the vehicle. Chargers bought through the dealer program are installed by a licensed electrician certified in EV charging installation. If needed, AeroVironment also provides at-home, in-person support.

The company also promises both one-on-one and online training, and provides dealers with point-of-purchase marketing support including home charging displays, window stickers and consumer brochures. AeroVironment also offers both Level 2 and DC “fast” charging stations for use in dealer service bays and customer parking areas. AeroVironment says it’s the preferred home charging supplier for the Nissan Leaf, BMW ActiveE, and Mitsubishi i-MiEV EVs.
