Fuji Electric has commenced U.S. production of its UL-certified 25-kilowatt DC Quick Chargers for electric vehicles in Milpitas, Calif. The manufacturer’s fourth generation, Chargepoint-compatible unit features a slimmer design than previous versions, “making it an ideal choice for a wide variety of commercial applications.”

Fuji Electric has commenced U.S. production of its UL-certified, Chademi-protocol, ChargePoint-compliant 25-kilowatt DC Quick Chargers for electric vehicles in Milpitas, Calif.

“We are now able to offer faster delivery,” EV system GM Larry Butkovich said in a release. Deliveries of the new units commenced late this week, he told F&F. Fuji entered the U.S. EV market one year ago.

ChargePoint compatibility is a major factor in commercialization of the units, Butkovich says, as it allows drivers to find the chargers, and more importantly allows for payment to change hands.

The unit weighs just 430 pounds and is priced at $25,000. Installation requires 280-volt 3-hase electricity supply.

The “sleek” DC Quick Charger is built to the international Chademo specification and allows EV owners to charge their electric vehicles in under an hour, Fuji says.

The company further states that there are more than 10,000 Chademo fast-charge vehicles worldwide, as compared to none using the new J1772 standard for DC fast-charging: ”

The demand for Chademo infrastructure exists now and increases as more vehicles are sold,” states a Fuji flyer. “V

ehicles supporting the Chademo standard will require Fast Charging for the next 10 years.”

“We were able to leverage our power electronics expertise to guarantee the product will meet Fuji Electric’s quality standards,” said Fuji Electric America President and CEO Phil Charatz says in the DC Quick Charger announcement.

“With over 350 units deployed worldwide, Fuji Electric has been an international market player in the EV industry for over five years and uses its own power supply in the DC Quick Charger,” the company says.

“Bringing production to the U.S. is an important milestone for us, and it reinforces our commitment to the EV industry for many years to come.”
