BYD’s First U.S. Bus: Delivery This Month

First Battery Bus from Lancaster Factory Is for Antelope Valley

China’s BYD has slated the formal delivery of the first all-battery bus from its factory in Lancaster, Calif. for Monday, April 28. The vehicle is for the Antelope Valley Transit Authority, which serves the northern Los Angeles area.

BYD announced earlier this month that one of its 100% battery electric buses is being tested in Rio de Janeiro.

AVTA is taking advantage of a $1.9 million grant to purchase two of the vehicles for a one-year trial.

BYD said one year ago that it would build battery electric buses at the former Rexhall Industries recreational vehicle factory in Lancaster (F&F, April 19, 2013).

California Gov. Jerry Brown is to speak at the delivery event.
