Battery Electric Vehicles Approved in California and Chicago
Battery electric vehicles from Kentucky’s Zenith Motors are eligible for funding by both the Drive Clean Chicago and California HVIP voucher programs, with up to $50,000 per vehicle available via the latter.
Fleet owners that operate Class 2 to Class 8 vehicles in Illinois’ Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake & Will, and McHenry counties can apply for funding to purchase an all-electric Zenith shuttle or cargo van. Chicago’s Drive Clean Truck voucher will offset the purchase price up to $46,884, Zenith reports.
“With the voucher, the Zenith electric cargo and shuttle vans are now competitive priced compared to traditional gasoline powered vehicles,” the company says: including the federal tax incentive of $7,500, and the Illinois incentive of $4,000, the Zenith battery van can be purchased for $39,400.
Up to 120 Miles on a Charge
The California Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project provides funding of $25,000 or $50,000, depending on vehicle weight.
Zenith notes that its vehicles, depending on battery options, can travel up to 120 miles on a single charge. “Zenith electric vans are saving fleet operators an estimated $100,000 over 300,000 miles,” the company says.
