First Time for Level 2 Charger to Be Included with Plug-In Car, AV says
AeroVironment’s TurboCord Dual Level 2 charger will be included as standard equipment with the new Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, AV says.
The 2016 Volvo sedan is billed as the world’s first seven-passenger PHEV. With a 9.2-kilowatt-hour lithium ion battery pack, it’s to have all-electric range of about 25 miles (expressed as more than 40 kilometers), and is to go on sale later this year.

‘Portability and Dual Capability’
“TurboCord’s portability and dual capability make it ideal for charging at home and anywhere else an electrical outlet is available,” Karklin said.
The only infrastructure required for the TurboCord is a 240-volt outlet. As a Level 2 charger, the unit can fully charge the Volvo XC90 in as little as 2.5 hours. TurboCord also allows drivers to charge at Level 1 with any standard 120-volt outlet.
