EVSE Features in Madison Solar Energy Project

Telefonix reports that 13 of its L2 PowerPost electric vehicle chargers will be included in solar energy research project at Alliance Energy headquarters in Madison, Wisc. The utility is looking to gauge the effectiveness of solar power in the Wisconsin climate, Telefonix says.

“In phase one of this multi-year project, Alliant Energy will install solar power canopies over 50 parking spaces, solar café tables, and over 1,000 solar panels from multiple manufacturers with 11 different types of panels being used,” Telefonix reports.

“The 13 PowerPost EV Charging Stations are being powered by the building, but the solar energy generated will offset total building consumption.”

Will It Work In Wisconsin?

“Alliant Energy’s solar lab will help answer a lot of questions about solar energy in the Midwest and help move forth renewable energy as a whole,” Telefonix business development manager Bill Williams said in a release.

Solar equipment will be placed “in various locations, angles and elevations to gather information on the best way to optimize Midwestern solar energy.”

‘Critical’ Information

The information “will be critical in the adoption of sustainable energy solutions in the coming years,” Williams said.

“This multi-year effort will enable our company and our customers to discover the many ways solar energy and renewable technology can be used in a Wisconsin setting,” said John Larsen, president of Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin utility.

Real-time performance data will be available onsite and via the internet.
