New Unit Designed to Improve ‘Braking Feel’ of EVs

Attleboro, Mass.-based Sensata Technologies is promoting a new strain gauge-type sensor, dubbed XFF for “eXtra-small form factor,” for next-generation brake systems for hybrid and electric (and conventional) vehicles.

The new 'eXtra-small form factor' sensor is designed to help ensure ‘traditional braking feel in hybrid and electric vehicles.’

“To ensure traditional braking feel in hybrid and electric vehicles, brake systems require additional pressure sensors,” observes Sensata global chassis performance sensing segment manager Jeff Silveria says in a release.

‘A Smaller, Lighter Package’

“By offering our caliber of pressure sensing in a smaller, lighter package, our customers can adopt multiple sensors without growing their module,” he said.

The compact unit features a “revolutionary” spring contact system for design flexibility, Sensata says. It has a modular port design, “catering to a wide-range of system pressures, and a modular circuit architecture offering high-fault-detectability enabling system manufacturers to meet technical safety requirements.”
