F59-Based ‘Route Star’ Walk-In Van with 85 Miles Range

Morgan Olson, a household name among fleet managers in bodies for delivery vehicles, has launched a 100% battery-electric walk-in van with driveline by Motiv Power Systems. The firms are announcing their heightened collaboration at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis today.

Morgan Olson’s all-electric Route Star van features up to 20% gradeability, 85 miles of single-charge range and a 50% battery charge time of 2.5 hours. This first battery-powered Morgan Olson WIV is based on the Ford F59 strip chassis.

In addition to the F59 strip chassis as displayed at NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Motiv offers all-electric driveline upfits for Ford E450- and Crane Carrier Class 8-chassis vehicles.

“Many fleet managers are exploring alternative fuel solutions and finding electric to be ideal in many delivery applications,” Morgan Olson sales and marketing VP Rich Tremmel says in this morning release.

‘Triple Benefit’

“We want Morgan Olson to be the body company of choice for these new technologies,” Tremmel said.

“Delivery trucks are central to America’s economic health and by powering them with a Motiv all-electric powertrain, fleets gain some stability in their operating budgets, independence from fossil fuels and reduction of diesel particulate pollution in the communities they serve – a powerful triple benefit,” said Motiv CEO Jim Castelaz.

The partners noted in Indianapolis this morning that the first all-electric walk-in van was delivered late in 2015 to AmeriPride Services in Vernon, Calif., where AmeriPride is looking to convert 20% of its fleet to zero-emission all-electric trucks – deploying ten Motiv-drive Morgan Olson vehicles (F&F, February 16).

The F59-chassis Route Star is available with four, five or six batteries, each with a nominal capacity of 21.2 kilowatt-hours, affording single charge ranges of 70 to 105 miles.  The six-battery option is available only on Morgan Olson’s long-wheelbase model.
