100 Vehicles for Detective Use to Be Announced This Month
Watch for an announcement later this month that the Los Angeles Police Department is placing an order for 100 fully battery electric BMW i3 cars, to be used for administrative purposes.
The move is part of Mayor Eric Garcetti’s sustainability initiative, which according to an announcement late this past summer entails the deployment of 288 battery and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles with various city agencies.
The i3 cars for the police are to be supplied by New Century BMW – which also supplies LAPD with motorcycles. LAPD boasts the second-largest police motorcycle fleet in the U.S., says police transportation director George Yamanaka, numbering some 300 machines by BMW and Harley-Davidson.
