Ontario Wants Chrysler Pacifica to Be World’s First PHEV Minivan
The Province of Ontario is anteing as much as $85.8 million to help Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Canada develop a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle version of its new Chrysler Pacifica minivan. The resulting vehicle will be the world’s first PHEV minivan, states a provincial government release.
The vehicle is to be built at the FCA Canada factory in Windsor, Ont. “The project will safeguard the facility,” the province says.
“This investment builds on Ontario’s competitive advantages by supporting a highly skilled workforce and a business climate that enables innovative research,” the release says. “The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid will also contribute to the transition to a low-carbon economy.”
The money is to come from the province’s Jobs and Prosperity Fund.
